“Hold Me Close Hold Me Tight” is the title track and seventh single to be released from Sydney-based Indie Dream Rock band Crystal Cities upcoming sophomore album. The song’s energy and exuberance is infectious. Rana’s guitar playing soars and (like with many Crystal Cities tracks) takes centre stage along with his subtle-yet-hooky vocal melodies.
"'Hold Me Close Hold Me Tight' is about the love and truth that exists within all of us. It's about trying to latch on to those healing frequencies when you find yourself in an emotional attachment that is unserving.
This song is related to a point in my life when I felt trapped in an unhealthy pattern of behaviour. My addiction was beginning to affect not just myself, but the people close to me. I knew that if I was going to heal I needed to find my way back to vibrations of love and truth; the true essence of our being. It was that sensation of being held close and tight by the energy of unconditional love that saved me."
- Geoff Rana (vocals/guitar/keys)
Crystal Cities recently announced that they will be releasing their 10 track second album as individual singles. “We’ve worked so hard on each and every song on this album so why not let each one have it’s time in the spotlight rather than getting lost in the noise of an entire album release all at once” said Crystal Cities bassist, Jared King. Domestic and international tastemakers alike have had great things to say about the 6 singles already lifted off the album - “Don’t Speak Too Soon”, “Got My Back to the Wind”, “Shadow of a Doubt”, and “Jenny, How Were We to Know?”, “Terrified of Your Love”, and “The Unknown”.
“Don’t be surprised if your reaction of stunned appreciation mirrors ours: once you pick up your jaw from the floor, your initial thought might be, ‘Why haven’t I heard of these guys before?’”
- The Revue
“Crystal Cities is a band with a sound.”
- For the Love of Bands
Once the release of each single is complete the band will re-package each song as one full body of work that will be their sophomore album, Hold Me Close Hold Me Tight.
At the beginning of 2020, lead singer/guitarist and primary songwriter, Geoff Rana decided to take it upon himself to learn all the ins and outs of recording. With the help of free educational resources such as YouTube Rana began putting the information he learned to good use, applying it as he tracked the band’s second album at this house in Sydney. It was a ‘learn on the job’ type of process for Rana who’s skills developed exponentially as the band worked through the entire 10 song tracklist.
lyrics
There’s hole in the wall where the rain gets in
A crack in the sky and it burns my skin
Yeah, I learn to fly on these paper wings
A hole in the heart were the blood gets in
A crack in your smile and it’s revealing
Yeah, I learn to swim on these paper fins
When the needle hits your skin
And the water come rushing in
Filling up behind your eyes
Hold me close, hold me tight
Hold me close, hold me tight
There's a hole in the sky where the rain gets in
A crack in the glass and it cuts my skin
Yeah, I’m coming in on these paper wings
There's a hole in the sun where the day gets in
A crack in the ground and it pulls me in
Yeah, I learn to run with these paper lungs
When the needle hits your skin
And the water come rushing in
Filling up behind your eyes
Hold me close, hold me tight
Hold me close, hold me tight
In the corner of the night
Hold me close, hold me tight
Hold me close, hold me tight
Hold me close, hold me tight
Hold me close, hold me tight
Hold me close, hold me tight
When the needle breaks your skin
And the water come rushing in
Filling up behind your eyes
Hold me close, hold me tight
Hold me close, hold me tight
In the corner of the night
Hold me close, hold me tight
Hold me close, hold me tight
