about

The sixth single to be released from Crystal Cities sophomore album is titled “The Unknown''. It showcases a ferocious bass line along with a rich tapestry of dreamy musical textures.

“Where do we go when we sleep? Is sleep a gateway? A portal? Is it a chance for us to reconnect with the other side? Did we make some pre-arrangement that when we wake we will not remember these other worldly visits? Yet, some mornings we awaken with foggy recollections of our out-of-body journeys - an experience we call dreaming. It was this paradoxical sense of return to a place that was familiar yet unfamiliar that inspired ‘The Unknown’”.
⁣- Geoff Rana (vocals/guitar/keys)

Crystal Cities recently announced that they will be releasing their 10 track second album as individual singles. “We’ve worked so hard on each and every song on this album so why not let each one have it’s time in the spotlight rather than getting lost in the noise of an entire album release all at once” said Crystal Cities bassist, Jared King. Domestic and international tastemakers alike have had great things to say about the 5 singles already lifted off the album - “Don’t Speak Too Soon”, “Got My Back to the Wind”, “Shadow of a Doubt”, and “Jenny, How Were We to Know?”, and “Terrified of Your Love”.

“Crystal Cities is a band with a sound.”
- For the Love of Bands

Once the release of each single is complete the band will re-package each song as one full body of work that will be their sophomore album, Hold Me Close Hold Me Tight.

After recording their debut album (Under the Cold Light of the Moon) at Abbey Road Studios last year, Crystal Cities decided to try out an entirely different approach for their upcoming second LP, Hold Me Close Hold Me Tight. This time there was no fancy studio or producer, but just the combined effort of the 3 individual band members.

At the beginning of 2020, lead singer/guitarist and primary songwriter, Geoff Rana decided to take it upon himself to learn all the ins and outs of recording. With the help of free educational resources such as YouTube Rana began putting the information he learned to good use, applying it as he tracked the band’s second album at this house in Sydney. It was a ‘learn on the job’ type of process for Rana who’s skills developed exponentially as the band worked through the entire 10 song tracklist.

With the helping hand of world-renowned LA-based mix engineer Paul Lani (David Bowie, Prince, Megadeath), Rana and co have dealt fans a sharper and more hard-hitting Crystal Cities sound while still maintaining the signature ‘Dream Rock’ elements that they established in their 2019 debut Under the Cold Light of the Moon.

lyrics

“Close my eyes” you said to me
The night is young
The day almost forgotten
Put your hands where I can see
Lay it down darling, all's forgiven
Who we kidding?

Now I feel the wind reminding me
Of the flesh upon my bones (I was miles away)
And in the night I’ve seen the light
It burns a billion stars

Yeah, I know the unknown
And in your eyes I’ve seen the light
Now stand back from the cold

Tried to balance on that line
But I can hardly stand upright, I’m crawling
Water tight, your lips are sinking
I feel it trip, what you’ve been thinking
I’m airtight
Yeah, I’m airtight

Now I feel the wind reminding me
Of the flesh upon my bones (I was miles away)
And in the night I’ve seen the light
It burns a billion stars

Yeah, I know the unknown
And in your eyes I’ve seen the light
Now stand and back from the cold

Counting fingers
Love it lingers headlong (Into the unknown)
Hands surrender
Bound by tether unknown (Into the unknown)
Into the unknown
Into the unknown

Now I feel the wind reminding me
Of the flesh upon my bones (I was miles away)
And in the night I’ve seen the light
It burns a billion stars

Yeah, I know the unknown
And in your eyes I’ve seen the light
Now stand back from the cold

And we go (Into the unknown)
Into the unknown
And we go (Into the unknown)
Into the unknown
